(And More!)

Interest in the use of Banked Human Milk for premature infants in the NICU has been gaining notice in Maryland over the past few years, including a recent Maryland Legislative Work Group inquiry. This symposium intends to bring together neonatologists from Maryland's 16 Level III NICUs to explore the issues of banked milk and to network. It is expected that following this symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine the research surrounding the use of banked donor milk in premature infants, and understand the structure and function of donor milk banks.
  2. Distinguish the criteria and recommended approach to using banked donor milk and human milk-based human milk fortifier for premature infants,
  3. Analyze the issues surrounding the classification of banked donor milk as a tissue in Maryland and what that means for how to obtain and use it in the NICU

We hope that each of Maryland's Level III NICUs will send at least one representative neonatologist to this important symposium! More are welcome to join us too!

Further information and registration will distributed in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
